报告题目:Exploring Structural Dynamics and Topological Defects in 2D Materials and Active Matter

报告摘要:

One of the long-lasting challenges in the study of advanced materials is how to effectively tackle the vast complexity of the system that is of nonequilibrium nature and involves multiple spatial and temporal scales. Of particular importance is the bridging between material microscopic details and mesoscopic structures or patterns, for which much of recent theoretical effort has been devoted to the development of novel density-field based approaches across multiple scales. In this talk I will discuss some of our recent studies in this field for the modeling of microstructures, dynamics, and elasticity/plasticity in 2D solid materials and active matter through the development of phase field crystal (PFC) method, as well as some ongoing challenges. Sample topics include the structures and collective dynamics of topological defects (dislocations and grain boundaries) in graphene-type 2D materials such as hBN and transition metal dichalcogenides as a result of inversion symmetry breaking, novel structural properties and patterns emerged in both vertically stacked and laterally grown heterostructures and multijunctions of these 2D hexagonal materials, and out-of-equilibrium, persistently dynamical behaviors of topological defects in 2D active smectics and of active crystals of self-propelled and self-spinning particles.

报告人简介:

黄志峰,美国韦恩州立大学物理系教授,博士生导师。1997年在清华大学获得博士学位,1997年至2006年先后在清华大学、德国科隆大学、美国佛罗里达州立大学、加拿大麦吉尔大学和加拿大多伦多大学从事博士后研究工作,2006年加入美国韦恩州立大学物理系。黄志峰教授是美国国家科学基金会职业奖以及韦恩州职业发展主席奖获得者。主要研究领域是理论与计算凝聚态物理,主要研究方向包括固体和软物质等复杂材料结构的多尺度建模、低维材料的弹塑性行为、生长动力学、缺陷动力学等,在国际顶级学术期刊Physical Review Letters,Physical Review B,Physical Review E,Physical ReviewMaterial, Physical Review Fluids等发表多篇论文。
